According to a source, former U of M standout and NFL wide receiver Braylon Edwards is no longer working at 97.1 The Ticket.
And it has nothing to do with Edwards’ on-air dust-up with Mike Valenti last month over Michigan State’s most recent victory over Edwards’ alma mater which got fairly intense.
According to my source, Edwards showed up for a live remote broadcast at Hockeytown Cafe in an inebriated state and had some sort of run-in with Pat Caputo.
The details are sketchy — and I am attempting to get more information — but I am told that at some point Edwards had to be coaxed out of the broadcast location by Valenti (who was also in the building) and then when Edwards attempted to return Valenti had to physically block the former Cleveland Browns player from entering.
It’s a bizarre situation to say the least. From what I am told, Edwards was doing some work as a U of M “insider” and appeared on the station’s NFL pregame show on Sunday.
I’ll update this story if I learn anything more …..
[Update: Another source has advised me that 97.1 execs told Edwards that he could only keep his gig if he agreed to a drug test. He refused. It was the belief of the station that he was under the influence of narcotics.]
