WXYT-AM Switching Back to Sports

According to this report on allaccess.com, WXYT-AM (1270) will be returning to an all-sports format in the near future.

The station is currently running a conservative talk radio format, but will switch to the new CBS Sports Radio syndicated programming on January 2, 2013.

AM-1270 had been a local sports station for years, but switched formats when CBS realized there was no reason to simulcast the FM station on a lousy AM signal.

One interesting tidbit from this new CBS Sports Radio venture.  They plan on broadcasting some local programming to a wider regional audience.

Although, I can’t imagine that people in Milwaukee or Indianapolis would be real interested in  listening to Doug Karsch and Scott Anderson pontificate on the latitude and longitude of Lapeer or Terry Foster and Mike Valenti discussing Charles Pugh’s latest foibles.

Anyway, on January 2, 2013, the city of Detroit will have four sports stations.

And you know what they say about a town with four sports channels.  You really have none.
