I don’t care about the University of Michigan or Michigan State. Whenever I write an article about either athletic department, it’s because I believe the issue is newsworthy and we have an exclusive. And usually the topic is highly controversial.
And predictably, when the article is negative about the Spartans, I get attacked by MSU slaps. Please see the Connor Cook dad story. Of course, when the story might potentially be damaging to the Wolverines, I get the same treatment from that demented fanbase.
These people just can’t comprehend that I don’t give a flying fuck about their programs or their played-out civil war.
So it came as no shock when I was vilified by U of M alumni and their Walmart brethren almost a year ago when I wrote an article detailing some local high school coaches’ furor over Jim Harbaugh organizing a rugby-esque game the U of M coach invented named “PeruBall” at an Ann Arbor camp for high school students last summer.
The high school coaches in attendance were disturbed by the violent exercise that took place at the “Exposure U.” camp and my article detailed their concerns.
Keep in mind, many of the coaches in attendance were huge Michigan football fans and ecstatic that Harbaugh had been hired to finally right the program. Nobody had an agenda to derail Harbaugh’s first season as head coach of the Wolverines. These were just folks who dedicated their lives to scholastic athletes and were worried about their well-being.
Here is a sampling of responses from the U of M kooks that took umbrage with an article expressing concern for the safety of HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS …
The same psychotic lunatics who were constantly getting their jerk on from my articles breaking news that Harbaugh was coming back to Ann Arbor and the DSR beating everyone else to the story that David Brandon was getting fired quickly turned on me the moment they didn’t like the content of this particular post.
(Not that I am singling out U of M fans for particular scorn. They are no different than the fanatics in Tallahassee or Happy Valley or East Lansing. I just think the cultish behavior of any of these loons is despicable.)
But I somewhat expected this sort of reaction from the kooks who worship at the altar of Michigan Football. What I didn’t anticipate was the blind defense of Harbaugh from Brian Cook of MGoBlog.
The following were the exchanges between the defender of everything Harbaugh and myself on the day my article dropped …
“Gullible hit piece.” Haahhhahhaha. Yep, a gullible hit piece. Look, I actually had conviction behind my article based on the sources I spoke with. Anonymous or otherwise. Unlike some people who troll Michigan State fans and then delete Tweets when they blow up in their face.
I offered the following wager to The Deleter-in-Chief ….
Cook predictably refused to make the bet. He probably figured I would screenshot it and he wouldn’t be able to bury the evidence later.
Anyway, it’s now been a year since my article was posted and I had calendared it in order to revisit the issue and see if I would have won my proposition with MGoBrian.
So I contacted some of my sources and discovered that not only wasn’t PeruBall played at Expose U. this summer, THERE WAS NO Exposure U. camp!!! This from one of the coaches who had participated in the camp for decades …..
After having a four day camp at Michigan since 1973, Coach Aspergers decided to cancel it and run satellite camps nationwide instead.
Now, did Harbaugh cancel the camp that had been run for 43 years straight because of a grudge against the coaches who “whined” about PeruBall, or was this just a byproduct of the satellite camp explosion? I have no clue about that, but the timing sure is convenient.
And what about PeruBall? Well, I have interviewed three people who have attended Harbaugh’s satellite camps across the country and not ONE of them told me that PeruBall was involved in the activities.
In fact, I was advised that PeruBall was replaced with some sort of ab stretching contest. An AB STRETCHING COMPETITION!!!
Which is like replacing a “Lord of the Flies” survival game with high tea with The Queen.
As far as I can tell, PeruBall has NOT been played since my article was posted last year. Here is a snippet from human waste Mark Snyder’s Freep article regarding a June 1st satellite camp in Indianapolis …
Too many other drills to jam into the event. Uh huh.
Or Harbaugh got inundated with complaints from high school coaches who were worried about their kids getting unnecessarily injured in a reckless drill …
That was from a Metro Detroit high school coach who emailed me after my original article.
One of the many lines of attack I received from Maize and Blue Nation was that I was a pussy for criticizing PeruBall and I just didn’t understand the football culture.
One stated that I was probably breastfed by my mother until I was 14 years old since I was being such a bleeding vagina. Well, if posting an article that might have protected the health of 15-year-olds is somehow wrong, bring me my mom’s tit.
I am just pissed that Brian Cook didn’t take the bet. I wouldn’t have even made Cook pay me the $500.
I would have accepted payment in the form of 25 “May the Forcier Be With You” t-shirts.
