The following are ESPN.com baseball writer’s comments regarding Nick Castellanos and Bruce Rondon following the Futures Game on Sunday evening. Team USA defeated Team World by a score of 17-5.

Castellanos was named the MVP based on his three-hit performance which included a three-run bomb. Rondon only threw to one batter in the bottom of the eighth as he was originally scheduled to pitch a ninth inning that never occurred.

Law, the Worldwide Leader’s prospect expert, did not comment on the other Tigers participant, Rob Brantly.

• Nick Castellanos (Detroit Tigers) took a pretty easy BP, going the other way on several swings, but in the game showed a pretty advanced approach, something he told me before the game that he has been working on since he got to Double-A and started facing pitchers who could locate on the edges of the zone. He had three hits in the game (including a home run) and was named MVP.

• The best velocity of the day belonged to Detroit Tigers reliever Bruce Rondon, who threw four fastballs, all 100 mmph or better, topping out at 102. The delivery is violent, including a head-jerk at release, and he’s got a bad body, so one-inning relief is his only role at this point.

As Moss posted on Twitter last night, trade Castellanos for the best under 26 year-old player you can acquire immediately and call up “Zumaya Redux” before he throws his arm out in Erie.
