A week ago, during a particularly disengaging afternoon in my endless academic career, a simple idea came upon me like an unmarked box of narcotics on Drew Lane’s back porch. It was a brilliant idea in its simplicity, and the excitement ignited my spirit. I imagined Terry Foster felt much the same way when he first conceived each of his “get rich quick” schemes.

The Boss Joff Moss had been bugging me to increase my contributions to this space. Both as a friend and fan, I wanted to oblige. But once you establish a DSR career of farting into your cell phone during podcasts and swindling the site’s most loyal followers out of money during a fantasy baseball scam, it is extremely difficult to shed the blanket of complacency.

Luckily, the media in this town makes things so easy. I followed 97.1 The Ticket’s Twitter feed for no particular reason, and quickly realized they Tweet out many of their show topics. As far as I was concerned, The Ticket was basically assembling DSR content on a plate and serving it to my Twitter feed. This resource increased in abundance as I followed 105.1 and individual Detroit sports radio broadcasters. My cup runneth over.

But what to do with this wealth of material? How could I use it to help the DSR?

I wrote Moss a detailed proposal for a new, recurring DSR feature. The proposal included various reasons why I thought the new feature would work and how I would gladly commit to it going forward. I knew Moss liked my proposal when he responded with “I don’t care”, rather than his usual response of “Seen by Jeff Moss at 7:55 AM”.
