So who is LUKE PUTKONEN anyway? You know, the guy that Jim Leyland HAD to bring in last night after Drew Smyly only had thrown 69(!?!?!) pitches.
Is he a top prospect? Is he a young pitcher that the Tigers have cultivated and expect a lot from?
Here is the answer. The guy was a third round pick in 2007 of the Tigers.
Last year he split time between Lakeland and Erie.
In SINGLE A, the guy had an ERA of 5.54 and opposing batters hit .297 off of him. IN SINGLE A. After being in the Tigers organization for four years, the guy was STILL in Single A.
Based on those impressive numbers in SINGLE A, Luke Putkonen was PROMOTED to Erie.
In DOUBLE A last year the guy had a 7.57 ERA and opponents hit .315 off of him.
Like, if your ERA is also the model of an AIRPLANE, you probably SUCK.
THIS is the resume of the guy that Leyland brought in last night to replace Drew Smyly. A bust of a draft choice who has no business being in the Majors based on his apprenticeship in the minors.
As Paul Harvey used to say, “Now you know …………. the REST of the story.”
The DSR. Doing the job the Detroit Sports Media WON’T for the last nine years.
