I got a tip early this afternoon that former WDFN and WXYT program director and the current PD at Talk WPGB (FM NEWS TALK 104.7) and Sports WBGG-A (970 ESPN) in Pittsburgh, Gregg Henson, was in the Clear Channel compound in Farmington Hills.
So, I wasn’t too far away from that location so I decided to drive by and snoop around. What I found was a minivan with:
1) A Pennsylvania license plate. Last time I checked the city of Pittsburgh is in the Keystone state.
2) A University of Michigan license plate holder. Well, we know that Henson is the King of All ‘Marts.
3) A Detroit Tigers “Olde English D” logo. Henson’s current Twitter avatar is a picture of Victor Martinez. Guessing he is a Tiger fan.
4) A paw print of some kind. Henson has been known to say he likes dogs more than people.
Hmmmmm. If you add that all up, I am guessing the tip from inside the Clear Channel building was accurate. I know there isn’t an “Impeach Obama” or “Free Zimmerman” sticker on the bumper, but I like the other circumstantial evidence.
Henson is currently working for CC in Pittsburgh so is a move to Detroit imminent?
Is there going to be more sports programming on the FM dial at 106.7 or is Henson coming back to resurrect AM-1130? Is Henson finally coming back to his hometown after stops in Dallas, Austin, Fort Wayne, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Billings, Fresno ……
I am pretty sure I made up those last five. I think.
And if so, will Henson be on-air or in management?
Or is this just a really big coincidence?
I have no clue, but I am sure Bill Shea from Crain’s Detroit will be all over this story real soon. When ya give me credit, HST wannabe, Moss is spelled A-S-S-H-O-L-E. Thanks.
[I have sent Henson a message asking for comment. No response as of yet.]
