Well, it seems that the sabermetric community is up in arms over AL All-Star manager Jim Leyland’s decision to take Orioles pitcher Chris Tillman over Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda.
All of Kuroda’s advanced metrics are superior to Tillman’s. For example, Kuroda has a FIP of 3.62. Tillman’s? 4.95.
Of course, Leyland would have to know what FIP stood for before using it as a tool when making the decision on who was going to get the last spot on the AL roster.
Hell, even if you don’t know what Fielding Independent Pitching means, how about the old standards like ERA and WHIP? I know those are some newfangled stats that Leyland hasn’t wrapped his head around yet, but a 2.65 ERA is better than a 3.95 ERA, correct?
Hey, America. WELCOME TO OUR WORLD. Below is a video of my reaction to hearing this CRAZY news.
